How to Get More Sleep

SUMMARY:

Many people struggle with not being able to fall asleep. In fact, prescriptions for sleeping pills topped 56 million in 2008-up 54 percent from 2004- with over 5$ billion in sales in 2010. Not getting optimal sleep can throw off your hormone levels leaving you feeling hungry, cranky and tired throughout the day. Without getting too detailed here, when you don’t get optimal sleep your body becomes out of sync with its natural sleep-wake cycles or circadian rhythms which leads to disturbances in hormone and body temperature regulation…not good. Abnormal circadian rhythms have been associated with obesity, diabetes, depression and many other diseases because of these disturbances. That being said, we’re all unique and there is not a one-size fits all approach to this issue. Why is this?

Well, there are many reasons but most commonly it’s because of stress, consuming too much caffeine, drinking alcohol or not having an ideal sleep environment. Usually it’s a combination of a few of these factors. If you’re drinking excessive amounts of coffee and having a few drinks in the evening cutting back on both of these practices is a good place to start.

In addition to avoiding alcohol and caffeine I recommend trying the following…

1. Create an optimal sleep environment
Keep your bedroom as dark as possible and cool. Sleep on a supportive mattress with clean bed sheets. No LED lighting from electronics such as T.V, cell-phone or other devices should be allowed in your sleeping space. Shoot to limit watching T.V and using your phone at least 30 minutes prior to your ideal bedtime.

2. Implement a “bedtime ritual”
A “bedtime ritual” is something you do every night to prepare your body and mind for sleep. Creating a bedtime ritual or a routine that whines the body and mind down, is important for two reasons. The first is that when done consistently it “triggers” the body to prepare for sleep and second it helps create deeper, more restful, quality sleep. Create a “bedtime ritual” that is relaxing and involves minimal stimulation.

Examples I use myself and recommend are:
• Drinking herbal tea (specific blends formulated for sleep)
• Read an empowering or inspirational book
• Meditation or simple breathing exercises
• Gentle stretching or foam rolling
• Listening to relaxing music

3. Try drinking a shot of tart cherry juice 30 minutes before you’d like to be asleep. Tart cherry juice contains a natural source of the sleep-wake cycle hormone melatonin and amino acid tryptophan. For some people this works wonders for others it doesn’t work at all…

Give it a shot and let me know how it works for you in the comments below!

How to Find The Motivation to Become Healthy (even if you’re fat, sick and nearly dead)

Get Devin’s FREE 5 day “life cleanse” to start eating clean and dramatically increase your energy, accelerate weight loss, and totally jump start your health and life: CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:
——————–

Most people don’t realize how unhealthy they are, until they start to become healthier. The state of being “not healthy, but not unhealthy enough to do anything about it” is a scary place to be in, because it only leads to one place…disease, and dissatisfaction. Most people gradually fall into an unhealthy lifestyle. I’ve never met anyone (yet) that has shared with me that they wanted to feel low energy, depressed and unfulfilled. But ‘life’ always seems to happen and the next thing they know, they are (for lack of a better term) ‘fat, sick and nearly dead.’ This state doesn’t happen overnight but rather for weeks, months and years. It’s a slow and gradual process that deceives.

The truth is that we are born to be vibrant, healthy human beings. It’s our birthright. But unfortunately, this right has been unappreciated by many, leaving us with the health crisis we’re experiencing. All it takes is a few simple choices and a little extra effort? Health is our greatest gift. Not convinced? Just ask someone who has recently lost theirs. It’s not pretty! Cancer, diabetes and heart disease wreak havoc on people and their families. The truth is that cancer, diabetes, and heart disease can all largely be prevented through making healthier lifestyle choices.

Why do so many wait till their health is on the line to finally make a change?

I believe it’s also this deceptive state of “not feeling healthy, but not feeling unhealthy enough to do anything about it.” Do you fall into this category? Do you know you’re eating the wrong foods and making poor lifestyle choices, which only give you short term fulfillment at the expense of your health? It’s time to make a change, to say goodbye to fast food and hello to healthy food fast, to start incorporating more exercise into your life, cultivating healthier relationships, finding the passion in your career or having the courage to make a change, reconnecting you’re your spirituality and making more time to do the thing you love.

Don’t wait till you’re diagnosed with cancer, diabetes, heart disease or worse. You have a choice. When you finally start taking better care of yourself is when you really start experiencing what life really has to offer…more joy, more energy, more love, more fun and more success.

I have great news. It’s not too late to make a change. As a matter of fact, it’s really never too late, because small choices lead to big changes. It’s through making small, consistent LIFESTYLE changes that lasting impactful results are experienced! And you are worth it! If you hope to bring health into your life in any kind of long-term committed way, you must connect with your “big why” or the deep tenacious emotional reason or reasons that lies close to your heart for wanting true wellness in both mind and body. This reason must be attached to what you value in life and where you see yourself going.

Only from connecting with this strong core reason and by connecting daily with the value behind it does the strength and motivation spring to keep you committed to making the necessary small changes every single day. Wake up to the realization that your life is your most precious gift and start valuing it as so by taking action on becoming the healthiest, happiest, best version of yourself. You deserve to feel your absolute best, you owe it to yourself and the world.

Secrets To Fall In Love With Working Out

I believe in keeping it simple! By following these 6 simple tips, you will be well on your way to a physically balanced body and a healthier, happier you!

1. Plan it!
Not having a plan is like rowing to the middle of a lake and then dropping your oars. You must create a personal plan of action in order for your exercise strategy to be successful. First, know what you want to achieve, then map out a specific plan to get there. Keep your plan simple. One big reason many people fail when starting an exercise program is they make it too complex and get overwhelmed. By following the tips in this video you will be off to a great start.

2. Make time!
You’ve decided to start, now MAKE the time to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle. There are 24 hours in a day, every day we get them and every day we use them. It’s not about more use of your time, it’s all about better use. Think about how much time you are willing to devote to improving your physical body per week. Then ask yourself, “What time of day works best for me?” If you’re a morning person, set aside some extra time each morning to exercise. Make a schedule of when you will exercise and stick to it!

3. Make it fun!
If you don’t like jogging, then don’t jog. This should be common sense, right? Wrong. So many people stop exercising because they start their program with activities that they don’t really enjoy …let’s save those activities for the company holiday party. Instead, let’s make exercise fun!
There are so many ways to get fit. A few of my personal favorites are: weightlifting, yoga, pilates, walking, jogging, swimming, playing sports and bike riding. Think about what you like to do and go from there. Still lost? Check out classes at your local gym for ideas or better yet, try some of my favorite ways and see what works for you.

4. Mix it up!
Adding variety is essential to a successful exercise program. Think outside of the box… Include different types of activities in your exercise routine and think about different places you can do those exercises. One of my favorites is jogging along the beach. Adding variety to your routine is essential to achieve a physically balanced body.

5. Outcomes – Set & Track them!
Notice how I didn’t say goals. Goals are either achieved or not achieved. Outcomes, on the other hand, are measureable. By setting outcomes and tracking them, you will be able to see your progress overtime and stay motivated you to keep it up.
Set some realistic outcomes for what you want to achieve. It could be that you want to drop 10 pounds for summer to fit into that new bikini, or maybe you want to complete a 5K that has been on your bucket list. Once you have your outcomes set, track your progress. Not only will this ensure you are achieving your outcomes, it also drives you to stay on track!

6. Ask for help!
Don’t be afraid to seek out a qualified exercise professional for assistance. They will help you create a safe, effective exercise program. By hiring a pro, you can be assured that you are doing the exercise with proper form and maximizing your efforts in a safe and effective way. Additionally, you will have someone to hold you accountable, help you stick to your action plan and push yourself past mental barriers. Which usually is the only thing standing in your way to success?

3 Life-Changing Reasons to Eat Clean

Get Devin’s FREE 5 day “life cleanse” to start eating clean and dramatically increase your energy, accelerate weight loss, and totally jump start your health and life: CLICK HERE

Summary: What does “eating clean” really mean?

My definition for “eating clean” is eating a whole foods, plant-based diet full of both essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It means steering clear of processed or packaged foods with ingredients you can’t pronounce, avoiding artificial, genetically modified, pesticide laden foods and eating organic as much as possible.

Our bodies are amazing machines that need quality macronutrients and micronutrients to function properly. But wait a minute? what the heck is a macronutrient and micronutrient? Good question, and it’s really simple….. macronutrients include carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Micronutrients include vitamins and minerals. These are the chemical foundations of our food and essential to the health of our bodies.

Unfortunately, due to modern food production methods, getting quality nutrition can be somewhat challenging. Most of us have hectic schedules and rely on convenience foods to sustain us. But most convenience foods are loaded with sugar, bad fats, are genetically modified, and laden with pesticides and herbicides which have the opposite effect of nourishing the body. Processed convenience foods actually create stress and inflammation in our bodies which is the root of almost all disease.

You might be wondering what are convenience foods, well convenience foods are usually those products which are not longer alive. They come in packages, boxes, wrappers, are frozen, and packed with chemical preservative to make them last, in some case literally for years. Now that’s not to say that all foods that come in a package or box are bad for you of course but most don’t qualify as “real food”. I actually don’t even consider convenience foods, foods at all. A more accurate name for these types of foods would be “food-like” products. The good news is that by just slowly starting to eliminate “food-like” products from your diet you’ll be well on your way to eating clean.

What happens when you are constantly bombarding your body with these types of processed foods? Well, imagine what would happen if you put regular gasoline in high performance racecar? It would have a hard time performing up to its potential, in fact It might not even run! It needs high test quality gasoline to due its job. Well the body is the same way. The better quality fuel you are putting in your body, the better performance you’ll get. So by eating clean living foods, you will be able to perform at a optimal level. Your mental clarity, your energy or life force vitality will increase, your mood will improve, you’ll look and feel better, and will overall be able to get more done. What you’re risking by not eating “clean” is having low energy, being more tired, and irritable, and just not having the gas to get past the finish line each day…

Getting started eating clean is really simple. Start by adding one or two clean food choices to your daily diet. A simple example of a clean food choice would be any fresh organic fruit or vegetable. By incorporating more clean food choices into your diet, eventually you will begin to crowd out “unclean” foods. The more crowding out that takes place, the more in-tune you will become with your body and your food choices. Once you become in-tune with your body you’ll be able to listen to what it is truly asking for which is nutrient dense foods that provide you with sustained energy. You’ll begin to notice that your body will be more attracted to these new healthy clean foods and reject “food-like” products.

As you begin adding more and more clean foods into your diet, you may notice your body also beginning to cleanse itself. This doesn’t take place overnight but rather over weeks and months of eating nutrient dense clean foods. Sometimes you may experience detox symptoms like headaches, nausea and a possible upset stomach. Don’t worry, these are normal and will go away as your body gets re-calibrated to your new healthy clean way of eating. Look I know this may seem complicated but it’s really quite simple. The less processed convenience, fast-food you eat and the more fresh living nutrient dense food aka “clean food” you start to eat the healthier you’ll begin to feel. To get started try avoid eating food that comes from bags, boxes, packages and cans. Replace this food with fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grains and organically farmed animals.

Remember it’s by making small consistent changes now that lasting results are experienced later…

Please carefully read the following terms and conditions relating to your participation in any of Devin Burke’s events or seminars which are conducted by Empowerment Wellness Solutions LLC (“Promoter”). These terms and conditions are relevant to all Empowerment Wellness Solutions LLC events and seminars including but not limited to Healthy Living in the 21st Century and Renew Wellness Retreats. If you have objections to the following Terms and Conditions, you should not register for or attend the Seminar.

Attendee Conduct Promoter requires all Attendees to be respectful and professional to our staff, location hosts, speakers, and other attendees and their guests or families throughout the Seminar, even during non-scheduled downtime and breaks. Promoter reserves the right to ask Attendee and/or their guests to leave the conference room and Hotel immediately should they be deemed rude, uncooperative, unprofessional, intoxicated or in possession of alcohol or any illegal substance. In such case, the Attendee’s tuition/fees for the Seminar will not be reimbursed under any circumstances and they will not receive any future products, services or correspondence from Promoter. Attendee will also not receive any of our advertised bonuses or qualify for our satisfaction guarantee or any other written or implied guarantee.

Liability Waiver

While we take every possible measure to ensure Attendee safety at the Seminar, we can not control everything. For this reason, Attendee is legally responsible for their safety and behavior and agrees to, and is held legally liable to, the following statements: I, the willing Attendee of the Seminar, hereby accept all risk to my health and of my injury or death that may result from participating in the Seminar and I hereby release Promoter, Devin Burke, and their officers, employees, interns, contractors, sponsors and representatives from any and all liability to me, my personal representatives, estate, heirs, next of kin, and assigns for any and all claims and causes of action for loss of or damage to my property and for any and all illness or injury to my person, including my death, that may result from or occur during my participation at the Seminar, whether caused by negligence of the Promoter, its governing board, officers, employees, or representatives, or otherwise. Liability Disclaimer:

Neither Promoter, Devin Burke nor their assigns, sponsors, speakers, partners, contractors or any of their affiliates will be liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, special, exemplary or other damages to the Attendee or the Attendee’s business, including economic loss, that may result from participation in the Seminar or from the use of, or the inability to use, the materials, information, or strategies communicated through the Seminar or any products or services provided pursuant to the Seminar, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Under no circumstances, including but not limited to negligence, will Promoter or Devin Burke be liable for any special or consequential damages that result from Attendee’s participation in the Seminar. To be clear: You, the Attendee, alone are responsible and accountable for your decisions, actions and results in life, and by your participation in our Seminar, you agree not to attempt to hold us, the Promoter or Devin Burke, liable for any decisions, actions or results that you make or experience in business or in life due to your participation in this Seminar at any time, under any circumstance.

Confidentiality and Non-Compete

Attendee hereby understands that the tools, processes, strategies, materials and information presented in the Seminar are confidential, copyrighted, and proprietary to the Promoter and agrees not to record, duplicate, distribute, summarize, teach or train from the Seminar materials in any manner whatsoever without the express written permission of Promoter. Any unauthorized use or distribution of these proprietary concepts, materials, and intellectual property by you or your representatives is prohibited and Promoter will persue legal action and full damages if these terms are violated in order to protect its rights.

Youth Policy

Children under the age of 15 are not permitted to attend, and teens between 15-17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire event. Adult Language/Content During our Seminar, we will discuss several adult topics relating to personal and professional growth. We will also occasionally use adult or profane language to emphasize a point or connect with or surprise the audience (though we will never be lewd, and we will always use tact and discretion in doing so). Participants who are uncomfortable with such topics or language should not attend the Seminar.

Audio/Visual Rules and Release

Attendees may not, under any circumstance, use any type of recording device to capture the information provided at the Seminar. No recording devices, photography or videography is allowed in the Seminar room. By participating in the Seminar, Attendee understands that portions of the Seminar’s live events may be recorded in video and audio and/or captured in still and/or digital photographs by the Promoter. Attendee agrees that the Promoter and its assigns have the right and permission to use such recordings and photographs should they include Attendee’s name, likeness, voice, biographical details, testimonial, or photograph for marketing, advertising or any other purpose in any media or format, online and/or offline, now or hereafter without further compensation, permission, or notification to the Attendee. Attendee understands and agrees that all recordings from the Promoter’s events are the exclusive rights of the Promoter and Attendee does not ask for or expect compensation for the use of recordings or photographs in which Attendee appears or speaks. Promoter owns all rights of any audio, video, and/or photograph captured during the Promoter’s Seminar or at any of the Promoter’s other live events.

Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

By visiting our event sites and participating in the Seminar, Attendees acknowledge and agree that they are subject to the Privacy Policies and Terms of Use of the promoter, which are listed at: http://www.devinburke.com/termsofservice

Cancellation Policy

Once Attendee registers for the Seminar, we make extensive arrangements and investments while anticipating their tuition and attendance, and, in the case of their cancellation, we incur significant administration hassles, expenses, and loss of business. Given this fact, we do not accept cancellations or issue refunds beginning 10 days after Attendee has registered for the Seminar. If Attendees cancel within 10 days of registering they will receive a full refund, but any Attendee seeking to cancel their registration after 10 days will not, under any circumstances, receive a refund. Again, this is due to the extremely limited seating for an event of this nature and with this caliber of celebrity speakers. If you are unsure of whether or not you can attend the event, do not register. If for whatever reason you are unable to attend the event after you have registered and after 10 days have passed since registering, we will happily transfer your ticket to someone else or allow you to attend a future Devin Burke event on the same topic at our sole discretion.

Note: The reason we have a cancellation policy like this is because each Seminar sells out and when an Attendee cancels we have to manage the administration challenges as well as gear up the marketing machine to fill the spot. That’s why we allow 10 days to cancel, but after that we do not issue refunds. It really does cost us substantial time and resources to process and refund a payment, to refund the promoter or affiliate from which the Attendee signed up, to communicate all this with Devin Burke and the Attendee and the promoter and the event planner for the Seminar, and to gear up the marketing machine to fill spots, which includes craft marketing messages, creating emails, postcards, mailings, involving Devin’s time, etc. Given the number of our Attendees it’s important for us to maintain this policy. This is our only method to ensure that serious participants signup and that we do not lose business on empty seats. Attendees can request cancellations or to attend a future event via the correspondence information below.

If Attendees are not satisfied at the conclusion of the event after having attended the entire event, and they notify us in the manner described herein, we will refund their tuition to the Seminar and we may also reimburse their hotel stay and airfare to the event. (The only travel reimbursements that are refundable are a Friday and Saturday night stay at our event Hotel, which the Attendee must have stayed at, and domestic airfaire to the event. International airfare will not be reimbursed under any circumstance. All receipts for such expenses must be submitted to Promoter upon request and any travel reimbursements are at the sole discretion of the Promoter). Participants who are not satisfied with the Seminar must, at the immediate conclusion of the Seminar, verbally notify one of our staff members of their dissatisfaction. Unsatisfied Attendees must also turn in all of their course materials as well as their personal notes taken from the seminar. In some cases an Unsatisfied Attendee may be asked to submit a letter explaining their reasons for dissatisfaction as well as their travel receipts if requesting travel reimbursement. Any reimbursements will be made within 30 days of the event. All reimbursements are at the sole discretion of the Promoter and all Promoter decisions are final and binding. Any statements of dissatisfaction or requests for refunds received after 24 hours of the event will not qualify for this guarantee.

Note: A guarantee represents a promise about the quality of services delivered; if an attendee never experienced the services (i.e. attends the Seminar), the guarantee obviously does not apply. Further, the guarantee cannot be substituted or confused with the Cancellation Policy.
